The Scandinavian countries are useful to the Empire because they used to appear as if they weren't really part of the Empire, even critical of its excesses. This allowed them a certain leeway and independence. Therefore, because of this softer image, their agents could opperate more freely than agents from the UK or the US. They functioned as 'sub-contractors' which was useful. This often functioned as 'agent swaps'. For example, the British send police Special Branch agents to Denmark to infiltrate anarchist, leftwing, green activist circles. These guys are likeable and charming, handsome, Brits. Have a lot of enthusiasm for the 'cause' and have wads of cash too. What's not to like? International solidarity rools, Okay!? Soon these coppers are shacked up with Danish birds and even have kids with them, just like in the UK. Nice work, if you can get it, I say! |
