The origin of Z. Maybe. Archived Message

Well there is no letter that looks like Z in the Russian (Cyrillic) alphabet. Though there is a character 3 pronounced Ze. Sort of. There is much speculation about the origin of the Z. The one I prefer is: The Z represents 77 - two 7s - one upside down. Representing the 77 years since Victory Day.
