"MuralGate as Distraction from Gaza: Smear and Smokescreen" seems to be suggesting that Muralgate was designed to prepare us all, in advance, in particular the media (who of course do the actual preparing), to ignore the deaths that would be expected from "[Israeli] snipers armed with exploding bullets...lined up at the border fence with, in reversal of previous policy, orders to use live fire" against the unarmed demonstrators of the Great March of Return. "I have asked whether MuralGate was an instance of purposely timed hysteria to distract us from Gaza, a stratagem which, with various degrees of self-knowledge, our media have colluded. This is the real scandal, for if more scrutiny had been given to Israel’s crimes the defenceless would have enjoyed more protection." He makes a very plausible argument. I would have thought I'd be immune to astonishment and revulsion at the behaviour of the backers of the Israeli state by now. But they plumb new depths. "Hey, it's the Israeli embassy here, we're planning to kill a whole bunch of unarmed Palestinians over the coming weeks. Can ye prepare a distraction for us? The cheque is in the post." 215 killed. 30,000 injured. |
