Modern workers are more productive than older ones. If there were nine workers to every retired person in Britain in 1945 and only four per retired person in 2022, the trebling of productivity means that the four contemporary workers are the equivalent of twelve 1945 workers. The relative cost of retirement had fallen by 25%. I doubt that it's different in China; Ghana perhaps, due to the plundering of its economy by the US empire.
