Not everybody is 'doomed' to consume less as energy becomes more... 'difficult'. The 'we' is only the great mass of the population. The very rich won't be affected. And if they are, it'll be marginal, compared to the 'we' part of the population, as a new fuedal soceity and economy emerges and the old shiny consumer society vanishes and turns into legend.
