'International law' does exist, up to a point, in many areas. However, if one remembers the debate up to the western attack on Iraq, and who remebers that far back?, there were a host of voices arguing that 'international law' de facto and de jure, did not in reality exist, where the interests of great powers were involved. Laws are there to protect the interests of those without real power. The powerful have always been able to take care of themselves, mostly at the expense of the less powerful.
