Why is politics and culture, along with almost everything else, becoming so incredibly... 'Tribal', at least within the media? Is the rest of society like this too? Is it because of 'labels'? What matters is putting the 'right' label on something, or the 'wrong' label; and nothing else matters? Is it because... society is breaking down and 'tribal' affiliations are taking over? We feel more secure within the comfort of the tribe, rather than the class? I don't think Owen Jones is solely motivated by money. There's something deeper at work here. He seems incredibly 'idealistic' and at the same time extraorindarily naïve. There's also the other thing that these journalists appear to have the strongest opinions about the subjects they know least about. One would imagine that this alone would make one, in relation to Ukraine, slightly more careful about declaring one's views so stridently and witout equivocation. I seem to remember that the left were more careful about blasting the public with their views about events in Northern Ireland or Israel/Palestine. That Jones has chosen to accept what amounts to a 'cartoon' version of the conflict in Ukraine, whilst completely disregarding the views and rights of millions of ethnic Russians who are part of Ukraine too, as if he'd dismissed the Palestinian story when talking about Israel... is shocking. Is he really as foolish as he sounds?
