Does anyone else find it strange, not so say clumsily timed, that Starmer has announced the appointment of Sue Gray as his chief of staff only days before the MPs committee is to deliberate on whether Johnson lied to parliament or not? Why not wait a month until the matter has been settled? Or does Starmer feel the damage would be greater if the committee censures Johnson and then he announces the new appointment? On thinking about it, there's bound to be political flak either way, so maybe he's calculated that announcing it now rather than later is his best option. Dunno. |
