It was encased in a thick concrete protective sleeve about half a metre thick For information, the concrete thickness is only 4.3" (100 mm odd). Also, the diameter of the pipelines themselves were relatively small 1.2 M dia, but thick in terms of (v. high grade) steel .. i.e. up to 35 mm thick. https://www.wermac.org/nordstream/nordstream_part3.html and other sources .. Not sure if one needs to completely bury them unless there is a chance of ice flows scouring sea-bed (definitely not at 80 M depth). The sand etc can be cleared using water jets but one would need a submersible for that methinks (caveat: I am not an explosives expert). I've designed larger pipelines elsewhere fwiw .. perhaps somewhat shallower i.e. 40 odd M depth max and we had to bury them only near the shore/s. Think of the logistics involved in transporting so much high-explosives across Europe from Ukraine. I think that children's cartoon story with Ukraine angle can be safely discounted. Fantastical It's a gripping tale that Sy has yet to continue telling ..
