Having checked a bit more on Moral Rearmament, which was a name I seemed to conjure from thin air as I was writing - but must have come from a distant jogged memory from when I was a boy in the 1950s, I see the reality was a bit different from my imaginings. Glen Close, the actress, was brought up in a home where this philosophy was followed, she calls it a cult! I'm not sure that truly represents the full movement which became widespread and international. Her father moved the family to its headquarters in Switzerland (it was an American movement originally) and perhaps there were cult elements there. I don't mean for anyone to follow a cult, nor indeed myself. But there is a serious spiritual hollowness about our modern society - global warming for instance must be an obvious manifestation of this. I'm sure contributors to this site would be able to list a few others.
