Yes, thanks for that Morrissy, though not sure where Prince Harry comes into the picture. But you're right.

The inhabitants of this previously unremarked and somewhat boring and modest archipelago in the South Pacific has been desperate for many years to join the wider western cultural world - a sort of adolescent wish to grow up and join and play in the adults' club. . So at last with the Parliamentary protests two years ago, the slaughter of so many in Christchurch, and now the ugly scenes in Auckland I think we can safely say it has managed to do so.

I'm not sure I like Posie Parker that much, but she was invited here by a perfectly respectable and legal women's organisation to speak to them, and allow them to speak on their concerns. The slurs and threats against her were seriously magnified by politicians and the media here over several weeks.

One of our four daughters wrote the following as part of a letter to congratulate David Seymour, leader of the right wing ACT party, but the only politician to strongly condemn what has happened.

This has not just affected Kellie-Jay, her events are about giving ordinary women the microphone and platform to speak about issues that affect them, in particular the very real impact on their sex based rights of allowing males into their spaces (whether bathrooms, prisons, sports, hospital wards). Well NZ women were shown on Saturday what will happen to them if they don’t toe the line, if they dare to voice an opinion going against the mob. NZ women now know that the very people supposed to be protecting their democratic rights will not only sit by and let them be harassed, intimidated, and physically assaulted for exercising those rights, but will encourage it. What a shameful day for a country that prides itself on being the first country in the world to give women the right to vote.

What has been particularly interesting and reassuring here is that in the comments sections under the article about this event in the NZ Herald, a large majority were dismayed by this display of violent intolerance, even in those that admitted they didn't particular cleave to Posie Parker's ideologies or have much understanding of the issues.
