    These two Lilliputian EU politicians are way out of their league. The following statement by RF senator sums it up:

    🇷🇺 Alexey Pushkov, Senator of the Russian Federation, on Macron's and von der Leyen's visit to China:

    It is clear that Macron's and von der Leyen's visit to Beijing was not a success. Not only were the dignitaries seated in uncomfortably low office chairs on wheels (so much so that their legs could not be stretched out - they rested against the desk; a well-known politician in France called this "Chinese torture"), and not only did they send von der Leyen back as an ordinary air passenger, but they did not meet any of the visitors' political wishes.

    They suggested that Xi should change his approach to Russia – and failed. They asked him to have a phone conversation with Zelensky. Again, a failure: Xi declined the request, saying that the conversation would take place at the right time (or it would not, as could have been understood).

    Von der Leyen tried to threaten China with consequences if it helped Russia with arms. Beijing clearly did not appreciate her behavior. In the end - von der Leyen left for good.

    And Macron left with a broad joint statement that says Beijing has no intention of quarrelling with Europe, which is important commercially and economically for China. But Beijing will not allow the EU to dictate the rules of China's geopolitical game.

    This is, to put it mildly, an unfortunate outcome for the West in terms of its stated objectives.
