Chomsky's views on AI are... interesting. He's rather dismissive and shrugs about it. He doesn't see it as a profound threat to middle class employment prospects. He does though think it's 'dangerous' in the sense that it can create a kind of 'biased' encyclopedia of 'answers' when one interacts with it. I suppose he means that AI is really, really, powerful at providing a narrow set of answers, but is still rather awful, really stupid at asking the 'right' kind of questions. It memorises answers. An almost infinite collection of answers, but relys on humans asking the questions it knows the answers to already. The State, of course, loves people to learn, repeat and memorize the correct answers, which is why the AI can sail through the American Bar Exam; however, questioning the relationship of 'Laws' to capitalist class domination, is something else. A radical AI that not only had more knowledge than Chomsky, a better memory, instant access to that database, was able to create new answers because it asked critical questions like Chomsky does; now, that would be interesting. An AI 'cloning' Chomsky's brain. |
