Owen Matthews "a veteran Moscow correspondent", journalist and writer of histories and spy and thriller fiction, was interviewed this morning on Radio New Zealand. His mother was born in the USSR and he is a fluent, basically native Russian speaker. You can find this interview here. Whilst Owen's take on events is conventional it is measured, unlike for instance Luke Harding, who was also interviewed by Kathryn Ryan a couple of days ago.
