Arkin was perfectly cast as Yossarian in Catch 22 Archived Message

Not a lot of critics seemed to like Catch 22 but as the novel was deemed "unfilmable" I think they did a pretty good job, catching the anarchic spirit of the book perfectly and not ruining it with cute American "humour". The brave and unusual casting helped -- Art Garfunkel, Anthony Perkins (at his twitchiest best), Buck Henry, the screenwriter for The Graduate and Orson Welles wonderfully way over the top as the cigar-chomping general. But Arkin held the whole thing together; no one I can think of could have portrayed Yossarian as well as he did.
