The HS2 for example pumps in millions to prioritise half an hour off a city to city journey as though that was a big deal: need to get there for a certain time? take an earlier train. And "Network"?? I mean 100 Billion to get as far as friggin Leeds? What is really needed is cheap efficient reliable public transport for short journeys which must account for ninety odd percent of rail use ... but of course there's no prestige for politicians in advancing non-sexy projects that benefit mere ordinary punters.
