Well yes and no. Of course it's a full spectrum affair but your second paragraph gives an example of the point I was making. Generally it's old industrial solutions not hi tech which is the mainstay. All the fancy stuff is not suitable for a real war. MLRS a longer range artillery. The dumb kind been used by the Russians for decades. The expensive US precision kind - blocked by EW jamming. Mines - not new, not sure about the advancement. Air support. Clearly Russia has the big advantage here. A real war would escalate beyond this discussion too quickly for it be anything other than moot but in the absence of nuclear escalation I think all the planes would be gone in the first month. Back to artillery. Tanks Vs Drones Having watched those videos of hardware being lined up and destroyed it looks like Tanks are diminishing in importance. Could be selection bias. Drones are definitely the place where my argument falls down but what China will be producing in massive numbers will be the cheap suicide and low level reconnaissance drones not the multimillion Yankee eye in the sky version All the missiles, planes, high tech stuff is so intricate it's effectively irreplaceable in the time scales available. I'm generally against war pornography of this type. The discussion of machines replaces the discussion of humans. It hides the degenerate pain, blood, shit, vomit and piss. I'm really noting that I've been propagandised by the war porn to the extent that I had an innate belief in Western military capacity to overwhelm foes with technology. What it's coming down to is human death by cannons and shells, [and mines, and rockets etc]. I had thought some of the narratives we read here were pro Russian propaganda and were overselling their chances. The Russian soldier I mentioned, at the end of the last simplicius post is a super powerful advocate for a Russian victory. Apart from the snow, they know it's victory or the Yankee jackboot and they have the human resource to stop that. As The French and Germans found, fighting the Russians in Russia is a very bad idea. cheers, dan
