Even at the fraudian, who have been thrapping hemselves into a frenzy over the film, the more realistic reviews are starting to creep through. Even Laura Snapes said, "I was surprised and disappointed by how incoherent the film was. The tonal mismatch was jarring: parts were extremely funny and frantic, which came to feel completely at odds with Barbie’s baseless existential crisis, and the dreary mother-daughter storyline (which was, again, oddly bad, given Gerwig made her name as a director with a film about that dynamic)."
Once the hype dies down I doubt this will be much remembered. I liked "Lady Bird" but think Gerwig is overrated and she seems to be the latest in a line of people that the media automatically and unthinkingly praise. I saw some early "Barbenheimer" article at the fraud that started out saying (paraphrased) "Nolan and Gerwig's directing C.V.s are roughly comparable" which is insane; Nolan's made a dozen, high-profile, acclaimed films over 25 years, this is Gerwig's third as a director.
