-I don't know about "hate capital" but from an indigenous perspective its probably the least Scottish place in Scotland and getting more so all the time: the city centre is now essentially a "Disneyland" tourist trap.
It has always been a place of contrasts of which tourists know nothing. I was born there in a now poverty stricken rat infested tenement and went up in the world in the sixties to this Brave New World Edinburgh Brutalist "Banlieue":
-Three up on the right opposite the lady was my childhood home for a number of years...and that gutter where the puddle appears is where my brother and I found a human finger. -Perhaps you can understand why Irvine Welsh had his first Junkie death in a flat in this row.
Not quite the "Stunning Castle" "Medieval high street" and "Georgian New Town" is it?
