Scrabb, I find it best to touch on current affairs lightly, no serious discussion. The different viewpoints aren't the issue - during the invasion of Iraq I used to debate on pro-war US message boards when the level of abuse directed towards those who opposed the war was, to put it mildly, intense - it's the lack of critical thinking that bothers me. Plus the fact that my friend believes herself to be super well-informed no matter how often, how politely and how humoursly you debunk the Guardian line with actual facts.
