For some reason I missed this essay by Pepe at the time. It echoes some of my ruminations/correlations about Vietnam and Congo events and the current massacre in Gaza. Btw Guernica is certainly there as dan pointed out, if one goes further into historical analogues. It's horrifying that we have to witness this in real time, this time, as opposed to history being reported by bystanders in those historical times, be it historians or reporters/novelists or film makers. And of course, the public, me, has this nightmare deja vu since I have been clocking up Empire's Forever Wars during my lifetime. |
