Sorry, folks. I had a little bet with myself this week. It was that Newsnight would not cover the Israeli missile strike aimed at killing 6 al-Jazeera journalists and of course I won the bet. At the head of the programme Victoria Dernyshire or whoever presents it that evening tells us it is coming live from Broadcasting House in central London, as if this is some sort of stamp of his-end journalistic integrity. Of course, and as we all know, this is total bollocks. PREDICTABLY they have been focusing on the Trump-Putin meeting and had "experts" on every night to mouth the same old guff that is either a repeat of what's been said already or just meaningless platitudes. In fact I 'll make another small wager that the editors thanked their lucky stars that the summit was due to take place because it gave them an easy way-out to ignore the al-Jazeera atrocity on the pretence that the big story deserved all the space. But can you imagine how a "current affairs and political opinion" show featuring all the most important stories could possibly not report and debate the killing of six journalists every night FIVE nights in a row. Well of course we can.. This is the BBC's flagship Newsnight crock of shite. Easy to imagine.
