The former is of course pretty hard to square with the fact that in the UK as in the US, manufacturing has essentially been outsourced already, the best educated European immigrants have been Brexited out and there is little economic opportunity to be had for mostly poorer educated young males arriving in the UK outside Deliveroo, Uber Eats or the service sector in barber shops nail bars etc. Though I must say the Romanians are now the largest immigrant group on the farm here. It's also hard to square the idea that record immigration is to do with government concern over the demographic lack of young people and declining population when it's own two-child policy 2017 is clearly designed to do the opposite and discourage people from actually having children. What you are seeing is I assume what the ruling elite want: increased social tension and lots of handy scapegoats. Its of note that the " illegal immigrants" which capture the focus of the right wing rabble-rousers & media are a very small minority quite dwarfed by the numbers of entirely legal immigrants: it's " Look! A squirrel!" stuff to avoid admitting that massive immigration is the actual policy of both Labour and the Tories and probably would be continued by Farage plc. likewise, whilst still making a song and dance about "illegals". These latter are btw also a brilliant source of revenue for the Private companies and individuals on the make employed by the government to basically subcontract out to huge numbers of Hotels to accommodate them.
