    Anyone see the NASA press conference the other day about life on Mars? 📂 Archived Message

    Being a bit of a space nut and amateaur astronomer for decades now, I watched with great interest the NASA press conference the other day about the latest discoveries by the Perseverance Rover that may indicate that there was ancient microbial life on Mars.
    Be that as it may, I was really struck by what I perceived as a rather aggressive and hostile tone to the proceedings set by the republican, secretary Duffy and then continued by the chief scientist.

    It started out by mentioning the mission was sent out during Trump's first presidency.
    Then it goes on to returning to the moon and having a base there.
    Moon exploration will be "led by America" we are told, and it will help "Put American boots on Mars".
    Then we are told we are in a second space race now and that "The Chinese want to get back to the moon before us, that's not going to happen, America has led in space in the past and America will lead in space in the future".
    Then chief scientist, Nikki Fox, an English woman just brimming with annoying "Americanisms", like "super this" and "super that" and "Yay", gets up to the podium and we get more of the same about "maintaining America's leadership in space which is so important..."

    All that and a lot more of "How great we all are here at NASA" in the first 20 minutes.
    It was right out of the Trump play book and I'd had enough by these fuckers by then.
