Peasant farmers of the british isles were used as a battering ram against the native ppl in the US & Canada despite having more in common with them than the colonial society that had often dispossessed them in similar ways. The dynamics of racism, denial of their own history and servile imitation of the dominant culture likely come into play in both cases in similar ways.
