I remember reading an excellent article, maybe ten years ago now, focusing on the portrayal of jews in American sitcoms, like "Friends" and "The Big Bang Theory". Although I remember it as being excellent, I don't recall too many details but it did draw specific attention to the way that Israel is casually mentioned or dropped into conversations, always in a positive light, as at the same time, in the real world, that same Israel is actually an illegally occupying power practicing a brutal repression of the Palestinian people and frequently "mowing the lawn"...I hate that expression, so fucking Israeli. Also the Kibbutz, always portrayed as some sort of utopian idyll set in the wonderful biblical homeland of the jews, when it's more like hasbara bollox glamping.
