Interesting, thx. I'm in the market for an as-private-as-possible smart phone since they basically made it mandatory by phasing out 3G. It looked like de-googled phones were probably the best way to go, for paying under £100 at least. People in the know seemed to rave about Pixel devices, because (as Medhurst describes) even though they're made by google, if you reboot with an open source operating system they're supposedly as secure as they come. I wasn't fully persuaded that a google-made phone wouldn't maintain at least a backdoor link to google apps and thus be hackable, but this sways it further. Some links if anyone's interested: Reddit forum: https://www.reddit.com/r/degoogle/ Company that will degoogle your existing phone: https://degoogled.co.uk/ Detailed comparison of android OS's: https://eylenburg.github.io/android_comparison.htm A few sellers on ebay sell de-googled smartphones, but then you have to trust that they haven't installed some dodgy malware on them. If anyone has any other recommendations, suggestions, cautions etc please let me know! cheers, I
