Thanks R, watched some of the GG video, mainly the monologue (he goes on a bit, doesn't he!) and the interview with KB at the end. Interesting bits, and it's probably a debate that's as old as the hills (def older than The Hill anyway, groan...) but good to air it out in a civil manner, pref avoiding godwin's law violations which Grim didn't mind in the slightest! Agree with Krystal's point about pragmatism over purity, and I've found it healthy to focus on the issue at hand when campaigning esp on local activism, and to shelve broader political & philosophical differences. But then every relationship has to have boundaries and mutual respect and if you're just keeping an association down to the narrowest part of common ground it's prob not a recipe for long term success or particular effectiveness. I guess it depends if you're watering down & censoring yourself entirely through that association, or if you continue to say what you really think in other areas. On the one side tactical choice of allies to fight particular battles; on the other capitulation and conformity to a 'party line' in order to get by. Happier with the first option, even if it means having to hold my nose! |
