He took it as a prophylactic and stopped some time before he briefly developed flu-like symptoms.

what allowed him to recover so quickly. Or he may have recovered quickly anyway, as most do, even of his age. Neither Remdesevir nor Dexamethazone would have had the slightest effect, but were given to him. The antibody cocktail may also have helped his recovery.
I think he may have been encouraged to say all these drugs helped so as to give their shares a boost, when there are no shares in HCQ but it was what actually did the trick! Oh the irony.
I also think it quite possible that the CV infection came from contaminated food, like smoked salmon, in the Rose Garden lunch, as aerosol infection was highly unlikely, and the Dems had every reason to try to disable the Trump campaign just weeks before the election. No-one else suggested this, ASAIK.
