Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries declared via Twitter, with a dash of right-wing relish:

‘This licence fee announcement will be the last. The days of the elderly being threatened with prison sentences and bailiffs knocking on doors are over. Time now to discuss and debate new ways of funding, supporting and selling great British content.

The right wing seems to be quite a broad church these days...

but putting the licence tax on properties is still being mentioned. Beware of a con in which COMbbc finances are rescued by the Tories by making it much harder to refuse to pay....

"Reading" Toynbee @ grauniad, centrist ciffers were congratulating each other as if they'd single-handedly won the "campaign" to save the BBC.

It was utterly hilarious.
