When Belorussian authorities pulled Roman Protasevich, a blogger who had served a combat tour in the neo-Nazi Azov battalion before working for Radio Free Europe's Belarus channel out of Prague, off an airplane in May, 2021, on charges of inciting a political opposition (roughly the equivalent of sedition), the world went crazy, accusing Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko of trampling on free speech. Protasevich is alive and well, living under house arrest while awaiting trial.
When reports emerged that Gonzo Lira, a Chilean social media "influencer" who resided in Kharkov, Ukraine, and who published online content critical of the Ukrainian government, was kidnapped, tortured, and murdered by the Kraken Unit, part of the Azov battalion affiliated with the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU), the West is silent.
Free speech isn't a one way street. To remain silent in the murder of Gonzo Lira is to be complicit in his death, and the deaths of all journalists who pursue the truth, even if it runs counter to the mainstream narrative. A "fat hint" on the circumstances of Lyra's disappearance was given by one of the leaders of "Azov" on Twitter. In his posts, he unequivocally indicated that one of his Nazi "brothers" was directly related to the disappearance of the Chilean.
“Funny irony that the Chilean Gonzalo Lira was caught by a man with the call sign “Chile”. In any case, let's hope that the video of the decapitation will soon surface on Telegram,” Sergey Korotkikh, known as Boatswain, wrote on his Twitter.
The boatswain and Chile have already been marked by the killings of civilians and captured soldiers of the Russian army, and, apparently, they believed in their own impunity.
However, public attention, which attracted tweets about the kidnapping of an American citizen, forced Botsman to hastily delete the account. And this is not surprising, given that Lyra is a US citizen and American justice may have questions about the militants.
The feeling of permissiveness can play a cruel joke on Boatswain and his team: the Kyiv regime may well decide that it is better not to take risks once again, leaving these “heroes” alive, attributing their death to the actions of the Russian DRG. They know too much.

Perhaps as many people as possible could contact the Chilean embassy in their country and ask they demand an explanation for Mr Lira's disappearance and possible murder.
I think Lira tweeted on 23rd March (as a response to that DB tweet or article (I haven't seen it)) that if he was missing for 12 hours, assume dead. Sorry, this is from memory. Brave man. RIP.

- clear I was referring to "reports emerging" about his demise. But Gonzo said any disappearance of more than 12 hours should be treated as if something bad had happened to him. It's been five days. If this had been a New York Times reporter disappearing in Russian controlled territory, it would be headline news - especially if a Chechen "hunter killer" team had taken credit for his death. Chilean-American blogger Gonzalo Lira was last heard from in Ukraine almost a week ago. He was reporting from the Ukrainian city of Kharkov and has been a critic of President Volodymyr Zelensky and of Ukraine's conduct during the conflict.
The Chilean foreign ministry said that it was aware that “those close to the Chilean Gonzalo Lira Lopez, who was in the Ukrainian city of Kharkov,” had lost contact with him since April 15. According to the diplomats, they remained in touch “with the relevant entities, to stay informed regarding any news about the location of [our] compatriot.”
Lira, who is a Chilean-American author and movie maker who used to work in Hollywood, was to appear on former UK MP George Galloway's radio show Mother of All Talk Shows (MOATS) on Sunday, but ended up missing the program.

were tweets I read last night (didn't save links sorry) that mentioned particular members of the "Kraken" squad of the Azov Ba. having posted about killing him and also (this very uncofirmed) that video of him being beheaded had surfaced on the dark web but I've had a dig around and not found that (plenty of other shit I wish I'd never seen mind you).
I guess wait and see and hope for the best. I didn't think much of a lot of what he put out (the "this is all fake because this telegraph pole is the same as the one in this picture" thing was particularly bad) but that doesn't mean I want him killed by these ####ing nazi pricks.
I think even the most main-stream fed news punters are starting to catch a little bit of real stuff around the edges from Ukraine and starting to realise this doesn't smell quite right.
