Could have done without the casual bigotry re: the Polish but otherwise very good.

Do you mean "Fanatical Poles"?
Anecdote:
My brother has a Polish friend who visited my home where he spotted a Menorah in my bathroom.
I'm not Jewish at all. I did have Jewish great grandmother, but the Menorah was in fact merely a decorative item I bought at a junk sale.
Apparently though, that was enough for him no longer to be friends with my brother.

When I think of the Poles that I have met throughout my life and I have met many, their political views appear to me collectively to express the idea that Poland should have had a great ( & Catholic) empire but was somehow cheated out of greatness.

I don't know what to make of that other than be distinctly unimpressed. Maybe I have just met all the "wrong" Poles? - who knows eh?

The Polish state is licking its lips over eastern Ukraine....

Well we've had Poles on the farm here for most of the twenty plus years we've been here, at one point it was indeed majority Polish. There's a Polish shop in town and no-one gives a monkeys toss or makes it an issue whilst the supermarket had stock of Polish traditional foods likewise.
I know Poles well enough to know that they have prejudices: often quite unpleasant ones. Very few nationalities gets a clean bill of health on that front: it comes with the territory.

My anecdote is anecdote: as above.

I'm always interested in your blog, Mark, as I'm sure many other TLN regulars are.

I was particularly struck by your description of the British state broadcaster: "the enemy of pretty well everyone who pays for it and of literally everyone who pays attention to it."

Exactly the same analysis holds for the state broadcaster of in New Zealand....
