The inflation joke and the "standing next to a biracial black dude" joke were pretty good but the rest of it is normal service resumed. Noah really is the court jester of the deep state....no amount of cajolery, and no attempts at ethical or social seduction, can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred for the Tory Party...So far as I am concerned they are lower than vermin.
Re: Came top of my Google unwanted search suggestions
And this little deep state soirée will be used as proof that the Biden regime really cares about free speech and can take a joke and they are not thin-skinned like Trump while they are silencing dissent with both hands behind the curtain.
I would love a PCD with Stanhope, Norton, Burr and Lee Camp. Now THAT would be a good watch lol....no amount of cajolery, and no attempts at ethical or social seduction, can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred for the Tory Party...So far as I am concerned they are lower than vermin.
Especially nauseating closing remarks about the supposed freedom of US media when compared to Russian journalists:
'So as we sit in this room tonight, I really hope we all remember what the real purpose of this evening is. Yes, it’s fun. Yes, we dress nice. Yes, the people eat, they drink, we have fun. But the reason we are here is to honor and celebrate the Fourth Estate and what you stand for — an additional check and balance that holds power to account. And gives voice to those who otherwise wouldn’t have one.”
Noah continued, “I’m not just talking about like CNN or Fox or any of the other major organizations. I’m talking about everyone.”
Noah said he was talking about local journalism in places such as Flint, Michigan, and Des Moines, Iowa, and El Paso, Texas.
“Every single one of you, whether you like it or not, is a bastion of democracy,” Noah said. “And if you ever begin to doubt your responsibilities — how meaningful it is — look no further than what’s happening in Ukraine. Journalists are risking and even losing their lives to show the world what’s really happening.”
Then Noah said, “You realize how amazing it is. In America, you have the right to seek the truth and speak the truth even if it makes people in power uncomfortable. Even if it makes your viewers or your readers uncomfortable. You understand how amazing that is? I stood here tonight and I made fun of the president of the United States and I’m going to be fine. … Do you really understand what a blessing it is? Maybe it’s happened for so long, it might slip your mind. It’s a blessing.”
He then closed by saying, “Ask yourself this question. If Russian journalists who are losing their livelihoods and their freedom for daring to report on what their own government is doing — if they had the freedom to write any words, to show any stories, or to ask any questions, if they had basically what you have, would they be using it in the same that you do? Ask yourself that question every day because you have one of the most important roles in the world.” ' - https://www.poynter.org/commentary/2022/trevor-noahs-speech-at-the-white-house-correspondents-association-dinner-was-funny-yet-inspiring/
Naturally no mention of Julian Assange or the US journalists who have lost their livelihoods, been censored, demonetised or hounded into oblivion for making the mildest criticisms of power. Lee Camp, Chris Hedges, Abby Martin and everyone at RT America? Steven Donziger? Consortium News and Mintpress who can no longer use Paypal? None of these people exist for Noah - I doubt if he has ever even heard of them. And what a f*ing idiotic comment about criticising the president... mate, you pulled your punches and you know it (not to mention all the punches that needed throwing and which he's not even aware of). This, for example, is not a criticism, it's a dishonest, brown-nosing compliment:
'Think of all the journalists whose careers have been hurt by the Biden presidency. People like Daniel Dale. He used to be CNN’s fact-checker on TV every day but now there’s barely anything to check. Same for Glenn Kessler at The Washington Post. On the way here, I saw him offering four Pinocchios for a dollar. Mr. President, that’s on you. What about Maggie Haberman? For four years, it was exclusives. … Now look at her. She spends all day fighting with random people on Twitter like a common political reporter.'
Everything in the speech probably got pre-approved by DNC goons anyway. An appallingly ignorant and propagandistic shit-torrent. A collossal insult to everyone's intelligence and deeply unfunny because of it.
..precisely because it's sugar-coated with comedy quips and the studio audience's united hilarity persuades viewers that the talk-show hosts' barbed comments and confident ghost-written viewpoints must be "the norm" and approved and applauded by most Americans and most viewers around the globe. The fact that Youtube'd Talk Show clips show a million+ views a month reinforces that belief or assumption.
You appear to be in a state of denial: late night TV talk-shows and Youtube'd clips still have a massive (global) audience and impact. I suspect most Americans primarily get their news and views from Late Night talk shows because they need the comedy sugar-coating, the show-bizzy buzz and hilarity to persuade them to pay any attention at all to otherwise dry, boring, un-entertaining news and current affairs. And Pentagon Propagandists have known this and fully exploited it for 50-60 years.
Which of those comic takes on Julian Assange's suffering did you find funny?
Regime comedians like Noah, and Ian Hislop, are not indulged by politicians because they're funny. They're indulged because they're friendly and reliable. Even David Letterman's show was dismally unfunny, in fact depraved, when he was amplifying the lies and slanders of a fanatic like Sasha Baron Cohen....
Completely agree with the second paragraph and most of the first. The fraudian only started having a regular "late night hosts" segment to round up all their propaganda giggles when Trump got in. Now they still have it now and again but now a Dem is in the big chair, the late night hosts are not the supreme oracles they once made them out to be.
I think Morrisey is calling him unfunny from a purely personal comedic standpoint. As you say in your 2nd graph, these people appeal to a large audience and make them laugh which lets the insidious propaganda message go down unoticed.
As Jimmy Dore noted, Noah has the technical aspects of comedy (delivery, timing, intonation, etc.) down pat but it's his material that is utterly devoid of edge....no amount of cajolery, and no attempts at ethical or social seduction, can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred for the Tory Party...So far as I am concerned they are lower than vermin.
"it's his material that is utterly devoid of edge." That's it, precisely.
Well I didn't laugh once, because of the propaganda and insults to intelligence that I mentioned, but I suppose I have to accept that some might find it funny, everything's subjective etc... Can't imagine anything more than mild tittering though - the sound of people having their egos tickled and their ignorance & prejudices reinforced. Does that count as real comedy? Depends who's defining it. I would say no because I think (the best) comedy is about puncturing the pieties of the ruling elites, undermining their lies with truths, wittily articulated and pointing people towards different perspectives and interpretations of their daily struggles. Clearly mainstream comedians (sic) have different ideas, as does their audience who maybe just want distraction and a way to harmlessly let off steam in a way that changes precisely nothing. Eg this atrocity, getting absolutely lapped up by the audience:
(Though at least Peter Kay hasn't - to my not-at-all-extensive knowledge - used his 'comedy' to push for WW3.)
