One of the most insane fight sequences ever; six minutes in lenght

Influenced many other films and cartoon sequences (Family Guy for one). These days you would probably need three pairs of the glasses to cut through the bullshit.

Good film generally. I have a couple of copies on enternal hard drives (you can get it from the usual sources online).

I'm not sure about people not knowing about it - it's been quite popular as a cult film in my circles for a couple of decades; and almost ubiquitous in memes - I've heard it be co-opted in various directions too - personally I think the glasses are meant to represent acid - exhibit A: they call them Hoffman lenses

They're as sheep-like and comatose as they were when the movie was made.
And the glasses have nothing to do with "acid" - they are simply a metaphorical device that exposes the hidden ugly truth even to the dumbest of the dumb and to those who are so hostile to the ugly truth that they're willing to violently attack anyone who tries to open their eyes.

Perhaps someone else needs to "open their eyes": "a metaphorical device", a metaphor for what do you think? "willing to violently attack anyone who tries to open their eyes". Doesn't that sound like the establishment's treatment of drug users?

To dismiss what is a fairly rounded line on the film out of hand is bad enough but when your rebuttal ends up helping to prove what you're rebutting perhaps it's best to take another look.

Quite wide circles - have you not seen it in memes? - and why were they called Hoffman lenses then? John carpenter was a bit of a hippy you know. Either way, the lenses being lsd or not doesn't affect the political message of the story (what would the lenses represent otherwise - marxism? Chomsky? etc - be a bit boring then)
