Browser Menu bar > Help > About. If it's Firefox/Opera/Safari etc..., then it's not DDG browser (nm)

It tells me it's Google Chrome. However, when I open Google Chrome it is in fact DDG

What do you mean by an "external link"? From where, the webpage you're using Chrome to view? (nm)

If from within your email or other programs, your OS or similar programs may be associating webpages

Sounds like it's your OS to blame. It's set the default application to open webpages as Edge
