I think Caitlin Johnstone's point might apply to the great rump of people re the Queen / the flag / Christianity. For a scarily large sector, these fantasies match the family Xmas / Thanksgiving turkey dinner with all trimmings too, let alone chicken nuggets.

Caitlin "imagine if chicken mcnuggets died" hehehe....

In simplistic terms all religious are fantasies, Hindus believe in Monkey and Elephant gods, should he have listed all faiths?

Yes could have said 'religion'.

I don't know, but I think I stopped short cos in the UK that I know best the crowd who say 'I'm not a monarchist but Liz has done a great job and gives me a warm fuzzy feeling' are often the same ones who say 'I'm not a Christian but I put down Church of England on forms': it was that comparison I was drawing.

As well as Head of State, the monarch is also head of the Anglican Church and head of the armed forces. In these roles Liz was the nation's comfort blanket.

Sure a fantasy but from a certain kind of religious attitude what, in our experience, isn't a fantasy as Hafiz put it sometime ago

Reminds us that 'religion' is much more than a rigid adherence to a limited set of propositions. It is a disposition to the world.

In the Sufi case the disposition seems to be one of ecstasy - cultivated by music, dance, drink and sexual union. An ecstasy whose ultimate aim appears to be 'union with the divine', however conceived.

I love any poetic / story / religious text that makes reference to the mystery of life, and/or the One, especially so beautifully as this, and with a nod to my favourite liquid pastime.
Just about to reread the Arabian Nights; and found but haven't yet watched a really good looking dramatisation, on youtube, made 20 odd years ago.

For intetest, just read this nice intro on Hafiz. Makes me want to buy a collection as an Oracle.

to all and really from the bottom of my heart thank you all, that was unexpected and interesting, let me conclude with "bol hu" in which if you are patient at the end we receive some advice from a 9 year old prodigy so we gave the Pakistanis pop pop music and they send back this, it's a win win all the very best to all from a cold wet monday in west cork, every day is Christmas

The 9 yr old girl prodigy seems well trained for someone that young. She didn't drop a note as far as I could tell. Good breathing etc. Very nice altogether. ta
