Do BBC presenters and reporters go to acting classes?

...I ask this "seriously" because I just tooned in to the BBC News At Six to see if the royal bullshit is still going only to see some guy (never seen him before) talking about finance and he was twirling around, doing the invisible accordion thing in and out...so irritating and animated with his hands and arms...like a Whirling Dervish?
I can't stand the BBC but it makes me ask why can anyone when their presenters and reporters are just so fekking annoying and patronising!

They are failed drama students, hence the ouanqueur gestures

The worst was Charlotte Dubenskij on RT, who could never resist a walk-and-talk along a Parisian street, steepling her fingers and demonstrating what a failed actor looks like. "STICK YER 'ANDS IN YER POCKETS!"

Then of course there's the daytime and entertainment brigade which prefers the unthreatening anodyne gay male like Schofield or other similarly neotenic subtypes like Ant & Dec.

Neoteny is the "retention of some larval or immature characters in adulthood" Note that all three of these (like so many others) were promoted from childrens TV where they had been clearly chosen for this very characteristic: they were adults who appeared childlike, so they could: " get down with the kids"...

Children's TV has thus been effectively used as a training school for adult TV, disciplining presenters in the art of remaining completely unthreatening with uncontroversial opinions who at worst will revert to mere puerility.
Trained in the anodyne arts and thus schooled at keeping the Overton window within the bounds of the uncontroversial, the media finds them very useful which is why it retains so many of them. Hardly surprising when the aim is the juvenilisation (or indeed infantilisation) of both the subject and the audience itself.

So - would you like to tar eg. Oxford graduate Harold Wilson with the same smear-brush? What about Philby, Blunt and the rest of the Cambridge Five?

Oh yeah - my own Alma Mater also just happens to be St.John's College, Cambridge.

But note bene that my time there was preceded by 16 years growing up and being educated in extreme poverty on a council estate - five surprisingly happy kids - even though our disillusioned father died young and our very resourceful mother worked five evenings a week etc. Neither parent ever had a car or learned to drive.

For four of us brainy (etc) kids, university - not long before grants were abolished - seemed like the best and quickest way to escape from poverty and the council estate.

Three of us made it to Oxbridge, one to Imperial College London and one to RADA(but she had to send out a ton of begging letters to wealthy celebs to finance it - a certain Phil Collins was particularly generous...)

Yep - it's dead easy to tar everyone with the same posh-toff brush, innit?

Yeah - I'm a Camford toff, alright.

Much as they dominate ALL the mainstream media, Oxbridge graduates occupy nearly all the BBC's top jobs.
In fact the BBC themselves have admitted to actually having had a "fast track" for Oxbridge graduates in place for many years.

On your own Oxford education, aside from the above which is illustrative, you have extensively demonstrated to us all your "ability" to not read anything properly nor it seems are you capable of researching anything whatsoever.

Combine this with your dearly held notion that your own "opinion" is more important than dealing with actual facts and I reckon you would be the perfect Oxbridge candidate for a job with the BBC: clearly your "talents" are wasted here.
