I’m still feeling a little incredulous about R. Sunak's announcement, a couple of weeks ago, that Britain would supply tanks to Ukraine, as pleaded for by the serial mendicant V. Zelensky.
At the time it seemed to occasion remarkably little comment in the media, almost as if it was a logical step, and in the natural order of things. But no - it was a declaration of war, and will be interpreted that way in Moscow.
Hard to believe that Sunak could be so ingenuous, and that the British government is still taking its cue from Johnson’s bombastic, theatrical visit to Ukraine many months ago to pledge (without our consent) undying support for that corrupt and politically bankrupt regime.
Not to mention the ongoing ‘special relationship’ - Britain’s supine and grovelling acquiescence to every order emanating from Washington.
With his faint smile and tidy haircut, Sunak affects to exude an air of decency, but I think it’s more the naïvety of somebody who might have been in his privileged element as head boy at Winchester College, but is way out of his depth in the world of realpolitik. Take this report on The Independent website a couple of days ago:
Rishi Sunak has said that the “hearts of the British people” are with Ukraine in a surprise intervention on the war. The prime minister also paid tribute to the ongoing bravery of ordinary Ukrainians.
With just weeks to go before the first anniversary of the conflict, Mr Sunak reiterated his pledge that the UK government would stand with Ukraine “for as long as it takes”.
His renewed support for the people of Ukraine came as he passed a personal message to the Ukrainian ambassador to pass onto to President Zelensky and the people of Ukraine at a fundraiser at the Royal Academy of Arts in London.
Part of the auction included a signed photograph of Mr Sunak with the Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky, donated by the prime minister.
Speaking at the event he said: “The hearts of the British people are with the brave people of Ukraine as they fight for their freedom. We will stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes.”
Not even worthy of a boy in short trousers, I’m afraid. The word playing on my lips is ‘evil’.

..and what a contrast to the Iraq War/Lies and record protests 20+ years ago when - what's more - we had no Youtube(founded 2005) and most of us had to get up off our backsides and traipse to internet cafes and libraries in all weathers to binge-watch Democracy Now 2-3 times a week just to stay sane.
Now, despite having 24/7 web and Youtube access on their sci-fi mobile phones, most Brits(Europeans, Americans, humans..) just can't be bothered to spend buzz-killing time and energy getting any serious independent geopolitical web-research done.
Your comments pete-g are spot on and eloquent of course - but like almost all humans you avoid criticizing the BS-enabling elephants in the room - the ordinary Brits/humans in their comfy armchairs who still just switch on their TVs - initially usually to watch something "entertaining" and see familiar faces - and end up still glued to the box and to their sofas when the "news" and Newsnight and Koolaid are served up.
(My apologies to real/bona fide elephants who unlike most humans purportedly NEVER FORGET)
