Nate Hagens pours cold water on hydrogen fanticists

Just been put up by Nate Hagens, latest guest is hydrogen industry specialist Paul Martin who gives a good overview of the good uses and bad uses of hydrogen - we won't have an hydrogen economy I'm afraid according to Mr Martin - bad news for WEF and others pushing hydrogen for unsuitable use at great expense to the average Joe:

I've recently heard a number of Green politicians talking about how we know what needs to be done in relation to global warming and the alternatives to fossil fuels are ready and waiting for us to transition. One said that all the remaining fossil fuels must remain in the ground!

I kind of agree with them, in principle. However, I simply don't see it happening anytime soon. The Greens don't seem to really 'do' economics. That's a shame. Abandoning fossil fuels, means turning Capitalism on its head and inside out. I don't see it surviving in anything like its present form.

The Greens seem to just skip this part of the Great Transition, which is understandable, but worrying too. Radically changing western Capitalism is a big ask. Oddly, it's the right who understand this and see the Green agenda as the biggest threat to the 'free market' and capitalism ever, socialism in disguise.

Thank God umpteen Chinese researchers have dramatically cut the cost of green hydrogen production and - just as importantly - have eliminated the climate-killing electrolysis by-product chlorine.

But you know all of this, right?

And no prizes for guessing whose credentials and realworld innovation fast-track-record I respect far more than yours or that of these two relative (and non-Chinese) mediocrities..

PS. the Beyond Star Trek, low-cost devices that we all use to communicate and empower ourselves with would have been ridiculed as the stuff of delusional sci-fi fantisy/fantasy just 15 years ago.

Chinese researchers and innovators are converting fantasy to reality year after year and in record time.
Just one more reason why the US War Machine and full-spectrum hegemonists wanna use Taiwan to ignite WW3 etc.

So, and according to you, industry professionals actually in the field of hydrogen are buffoons and Chinese engineers and scientists are not buffoons - good to know.

Further, not having the benefit of an Oxbridge education, and not being arsed to sub-edit myself, I'll ignore your snide remark - still, good to know such an education can benefit some I suppose.

By the way, I'm a bloody resident of China and not known on these boards for slagging my Chinese hosts off and fully aware of Chinese energy transition plans, which is rather mixed and should be fully in place by 2060.

Further, and judging by your comment, you actually did not listen to the dialogue, had you done so you'd express yourself a little differently.

As you place much stock in Chinese Science and Research, one hopes such 'stock' is also applied to those Chinese scientists and academics who outline actual hurdles to China greatly reducing co2 emissions and electrifying many processes by 2060, as detailed in the attached research paper, further, Energyskeptic also has a large catalogue pouring cold water on the Hydrogen hopium brigade - its one thing to make scientific breakthroughs, quite another to bring that to market and benefit humanity.

Oh, and, as you've been instructed previously, this poster does not subscribe to a technological brilliant future, rather I push de-growth as the answer to a plethora of ecological issues facing our planet, climate change being one among a myriad of these, so, maybe, just do away with Capitalism and 'rubbish tip' consumerism as pushed by your mobile phone manufacturers, which is what most genuine Greens actually understand.

Both guys are well versed on the subject. Pleasure to listen to them. Definitely worth archiving.

He says: [Hydrogen is] is considered (as a) .. Swiss-army knife for decarbonisation and source of energy in the future.

@23:09 he says: [Hydrogen is] fuel of the future but the problem is, it is very unlikely to be fuel of the present.

He listed a number of items that need to be solved since it is a potential greenhouse gas, generates nitrous oxide when burned resulting in acid rain i.e. toxic etc. etc.

@30:00 now and can't wait until they get into thermodynamics

And yeah .. Jim is our subject headline 'analyst'. He was exuberantly happy to correct your headline and then talk about things that don't relate directly to the content - in essence whataboutery. Nature of the beast.

As ever, it pays to read/listen beyond the headline, something young Jim should consider the next time he opines without actually following key points detailed throughout the dialogue. Further, perhaps Jim could have done himself a favour and actually checked out Paul Martin's credentials - evidently 30 years working as a qualified chemical engineer gives Mr Martin no right to an informed opinion.

Still, if you quaff at the Aaron Bastani Luxury Communism Bar one's opinion is somewhat coloured shall we say. I'll stick to the 'realism' school myself, the one influenced by actual constraints and thermodynamics.

Thanks for that snippet. Not surprised. It's like 2 process engineers (usually chemists) rabbiting on about their fave subject : ). I've met some, but these guys communicate better.

Gotta laugh, not long after Jim wades in with his informed opinion taken from a headline, we have Sabine Hossenfender's latest YouTube post strangely with a focus on hydrogen concerns, no doubt, being German, a holder of a PhD in science and an actual Professor, her opinion, like that of Nate Hagens and Paul Martin's is of little worth - I'm sure Sabine will be impressed by Jim's opinion. Not!
