Senate Bill 686...

If this goes through and the UK follows like sheep as usual then you are getting 20 years and your bank account cleared out (if you have anything to clear out...) if you continue to access (as many of us do...) Russian Iranian or Chinese etc sites using a VPN.
-All in the name of "Freedom" eh?

Senate Bill 686, The Restrict Act, wants to put you in jail for 20 years for using a VPN for using a website or app is operated by a “foreign adversaries.” These are the foreign adversaries btw:

I use Tor guv, not a VPN .. : )

It appears alarming and preposterous that we have got anywhere near to this point. But, surely, so many people try to get around censorship.

The real worry for us if this bleeds from over the pond, which it just may do, to show to our US master how gung-ho we are as a faithful minion. The numbers would be overwhelming for GCHQ/courts/police surely?

That's is a multi-page report that lays out a lot of the history on this, some specific, some general. Have a search around and you'll find plenty of sources on the subject.

Not saying it doesn't let you work around certain blocks (Russian news sites for example) but it's not "secure" secure.

VPN are better but they coming for those too.

Thanks for that article. The only reason I use Tor is because I haven't worked out how to get me and to use a VPN.

Another cool tool that sashimi introduced me to is archive.today ..
