I was there and no it wasn't personal. After all there were 15,000 people there too. It was very emotional, both raising consciousness, anger and empathy.
My hat's off to Roger Waters. He gets it.

He could just sit back and enjoy his well-earned retirement. He's been doing this for sixty years, after all. But I suppose it's fundamentally, who he is, what his life's been about, writing songs and performing them.

I wish there were more people like him in the arts and entertainment. It's a bit odd. I was wondering if freedom of speech has now become something linked to legendary status, artist talent and huge wealth? If one is a public figure? His tours have, over the last few years, grossed in excess of a thousand million dollars.

Yes and no.

It was personal to me. It affects me deeply. Not so much my future but the future of my children and grandchildren.

But, it's also a universal message. The very real possibility of the extinction of humanity - and much else besides - because of our own stupidity.

An evolutionary rupture. But bacteria etc will survive as they always have done.

In the scheme of things overall perhaps of little consequence. That's being rational.

Emotionally though - and we are emotional beings - a ####ing tragedy.

Amazing graphic lightshow -- don't know how else to describe it. I can understand now why the tickets are so expensive. I've never been to a mammoth stadium gig like this, so I think I should give it a go. Is Val Doonican still touring?

You've missed out on Doonican, scrabb. He died a few years ago.

Why not go and see Waters in Manchester on June 10 if there are tickets still available? You most likely won't get another chance. I am right in thinking you live in Rochdale, aren't I? So, you wouldn't need to stay over and transport costs would be minimal.

How do you know I live in Rochdale, john? Has my JLM cover been blown?

I'm taking your good advice (along with my son's) to go to Roger's concert on Saturday (tickets still available) to experience a Big Venue event for the first time. I really have no excuse because I can get the tram to Victoria where the arena is and hop on back home. To be frank, I was never a fan of Pink Floyd (20 years too late for me) but I'm a huge admirer of Rog and just wish there were more, or even one, like him.

I wouldn't call myself a fan as such though they did some excellent stuff and Waters' post-Floyd work is interesting (Amused to Death album, eg).

And, of course, I am broadly sympathetic to RW's politics.
