Ukraine has blown the Nova Kakhovka dam...

Wikipedia: “The dam has a power station with an installed capacity of 357 MW. Water from Kakhovka Reservoir is cooling the 5.7 GW Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, and also sent via the North Crimean Canal to irrigate large areas of northern Crimea.”

So...it creates serious problems for the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (Russian controlled) and water supplies in Crimea. (Russian territory)

I therefore await the blame being put on Russia which of course previously blew its own pipeline but that was clearly not masochistic enough and its now shooting itself in both feet.

Ukraine’s military said that Russian forces blew up the dam. “The Kakhovka (dam) was blown up by the Russian occupying forces,” the South command of Ukraine’s Armed Forces said on Tuesday on its Facebook page. “The scale of the destruction, the speed and volumes of water, and the likely areas of inundation are being clarified.”

Russian news agencies said the dam, controlled by Russian forces, had been destroyed in shelling while a Russian-installed official said it was a terrorist attack – Russian shorthand for an attack by Ukraine.

Either way (shelling/"terrorist attack") it makes no sense that it's the Russians that blew up the dam they controlled.

Before all this kicked off I thought there was no way they would get away with the propaganda blitz we saw in Iraq/Libya/Syria but it's been way way worse.

...no amount of cajolery, and no attempts at ethical or social seduction, can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred for the Tory Party...So far as I am concerned they are lower than vermin.

"MOSCOW, June 6 (Reuters) - Russia's state nuclear energy corporation Rosatom said on Tuesday that the breach of a dam in southern Ukraine did not pose a threat to the Moscow-controlled Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant for now where it said the situation was being monitored.

Ukraine and Russia accused each other on Tuesday of blowing up the Soviet-era Nova Kakhovka dam in part of Ukraine's Kherson region controlled by Russian forces unleashing a wall of floodwater.

Yury Chernichuk, director of the Russian-controlled power station, said in a statement on the Telegram messaging application that the situation at the nuclear plant was stable.

"At the moment there are no threats to the safety of Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. Five units are in "cold shutdown" state, 1 in "hot shutdown" state. The water level in the cooling pond has not changed and is 16.67 metres," he said.

Chernichuk said that water cooling the facility's spent nuclear fuel storage pools was on a closed circuit and had no direct contact with water coming from the Kakhovka Reservoir.

Nor, he said, was the heat removal system dependent on water from the reservoir and could be replenished with water from "several alternative sources."

The BBC 'deference correspondent' stated that it was 'plausible' that the Russians had blown up their own dam! This is rather reminiscant of the absurd claims that they destroyed their own pipeline, NordStream Two.

It's a sign, like the raids into Russia, that the Ukrainians are getting desperate to do show their western backers/controllers, that they aren't a spent force and, therefore, need even more weapons and support, which, apparently will put them on the road to final victory. Without some sign of the tide changing soon, support from the West will start to wane, especially as the US election looms on the horizon. So, the hapless Urkrainian conscripts are being sacrificed for what amounts to a PR stunt, a propaganda offensive, theatre that's meant to disguise what's really going on.
