The site has completely scrubbed the channel of the former US intelligence officer, who has repeatedly voiced support for Russia

YouTube has terminated the account of former US spy Scott Ritter and deleted all of his videos on the platform. According to Ritter, the Google-owned social media giant accused his channel of violating the terms of service.

Writing on X (formerly known as Twitter), Ritter stated that his channel, ‘The Scott Ritter Show’, through which he attempted to “import Russian voices to an American/Western audience,” had been flagged for ‘hate speech’ and taken down without prior warning or any specific examples of the offense.

“There was never any hate speech involved in any of the episodes of ‘The Scott Ritter Show’, unless one views unique content from silenced voices hateful,” Ritter said, calling the move “the latest in a series of actions by YouTube to silence Russian voices.”

“[This] represents the living manifestation of the disease of Russophobia which has swept America and US-based social media platforms,” he wrote.

In a separate post, Ritter noted that in addition to his channel, YouTube had also deleted the ‘Ask The Inspector’ channel, claiming that the move is “a targeted effort by YouTube to remove/minimize my voice, and those of my guests and the people who took the time to ask probing questions about the pressing issues of the day.”

“Those who are behind this should know – you won’t succeed,” Ritter said, adding that there is a “vast social media world” beyond YouTube, while warning those that remain on the platform that they will at some point have to conform to it or have their channels deleted, too.

Well, that was predictable, surprised a bit that it hadn't happened some time ago. There was nothing "hateful" in Scott Ritter's content, it was consistently the most moral, penetrating and despite his language, the most sophisticate and knowledgeable commentary available to us. And brave too. An avowed American patriot, he was able to escape the imprisonment of thought and action that patriotism usually implies, as he did in Iraq, and tell us what reality looks like. Well, there'll be other places he can broadcast and I"ll search them out.

I wonder that the Duran and others will say about this, as Scott's not exactly showered them with praise......I truly respect a man or woman who will not shy from criticising even nominal friends for his or her principles, because basically if you do this, you are allowing others to make you a hypocrite. In fact, that's a very good reply to others you disagree with "why should I modify my opinion on your account? You are demanding of me that I become a hypocrite, and I refuse to be one - only time or reality will prove who is right or who is wrong....."

The problem for us Brits is the depth of penetration of US interests in our government, military and intelligence services, and the power of US money in our press and business. I'm just reading about the US Colonel Oats appears in Harrogate Court charged with careless driving causing serious injury to two 15 year old boys. He worked as "Head of Space Policy" at RAF Menwith Hill, where over 600 US citizens as intelligence officers, military and civilians work and are housed. Shades of Harry Dunn and the diplomat's wife. The UK, a vassal US state, perhaps even more so since leaving the EU?

I been scratching my brain for this coinage for yonks and always got stuck at anti-russissism , which didn't seem to work. Then yesterday, like a bolt of lightening anti-cyrillicism was birthed.

It also serves as AAA-grade trolling coinage. The folks at grauniad towers will be chomping unplucked chickens in fearful, logic-blocking anticipation and outsourcing rhetoric-repair kits

There is certain truth in what you say. Latinic alphabet has been adopted in Slavic nations like Poland, Chezs, Slovakia and Ukraine. The cyrillic slavic nations are Russia, Bulgaria and Serbia and (I think) MonteNegro. In essence it is the split between Eastern and Western Roman Empire. There has always been strife between these two entities, with some modifications, for 1000s of years and it still persists.

Obviously it's to do with the weather forecast....nm

Just realised that you were actually criticising my short take on cyrillic/latinic historical divide. Now, focus was very perceptive in initially pointing this out, and I, being familiar with the subject, had a light bulb moment, and further fleshed this out. Any historian worth his salt would confirm that what I said was true. Well, there are small bits one could quibble about .. but in essence it's 95% correct. Unless you either debate it and demonstrate I am wrong, if I were you, I would stay quiet on the subject.

A selection of the following aspects perhaps:

1* a religious element: general denigration, negative superstition, inference of backwardness vis a vis " modernity"

2* a genetic/ racial element: nefariousness, inferred inferiority,

3* a "behavioural" element: attributed malign motive and untrustworthiness, posited active grand scheming historical conspiracys and extension in the present era, seditious nature vis a vis "normal society", simultaneous remedialness and exceptionality etc

4* genocide/ ethnic cleansing element: evidence of pervaßive and historical attempted genocides and part genocides/ ethnic cleansing

5* a restricting, sequestering, banning or destruction of said groups cultural legacy, contribution,

6* a financial/ trade element : exclusions from trade, expropriation of capital and wealth

7* a right of reply element: restricting ar sequestering of right to reply, group voice etc

8* a legal element: unequal access to and treatment by law and statute

9* a propaganda element: mass media mischaracterisation and encouragement of internalisation by " host " population.

10* a travel element?

11* language element : repression of language use by members of group in a particular polity/ies, displacement of language from system: from alphabet itself through official documents to street and town names all the way down.

12* forgot

13* etc

Maybe you could think of some more, and a useful anti-cirillicisn checklist could be born.

I'd wager there will be multiple instances of many the above 13 elements evidenced in mediaand elite policy over the last 18 months with all of them being ticked off as we go back further in time.

I have to make a correction to my statement that Ukraine has drifted off to latinic alphabet, it ain't so, they use a variant of cyrillic

So far, only this ( here) thread comes up under the search term "anti-cyrillicism" on ddg, or Google. Zero on bing.

What do you reckon?
Has the concept/ label got legs validity, utility?
Has the concept/ label/ word got weaknesses?
Is it worth including in comment posted on other sites to promote the word/concept and make it exist?

I think it has legs imo. When you mentioned it, I conceptually understood what you meant on the spot. It has weaknesses as per my detraction i.e. even though Cyrillic is being used the neighbouring countries one can have ideological differences invoking 'otherness' despite sharing the alphabet. Perhaps one could look at anticyrillic concept as a subset on your list?

Also, Bulgaria comes to mind as not being slavic but adopting cyrillic writing, in addition to being one of the religious conduits to Kievan Rus of the Cyrillic bible (which ended up as being recognised as Old Slavonic writing). Historical quirks.

One could turn to Byzantium historically if one is to analyse the back currents. Ultimately, Cyrillic alphabet has replicated the Greek alphabet. Just look at the Cyrillic letters. And, after all, Cyril and Methodius did come from Thessalonica.

Indeed, I doubt Ritter ever had a guest on who made racist, dehumanising comments unchallenged like the BBC did here, to pick just one example (from 1.50):

Sergei Orlov, Deputy Mayor of Mariupol: 'You saw these pictures, you saw these videos, and we see that Russian, Russian army they are not human being. Where, I don't know who they are - are they animals, are they orcs or who they are, I don't know. How it's possible to do this I cannot even imagine.'

Youtube shouldn't be allowed to get away with this.

Reminds me of a rare bit of BBC Radio 4 I heard today, some kind of 'in depth geopolitical analysis', with emotive music at the right time to help us understand, and constantly emphasising the gulf between "good guys with rules based order and democracy, including the US, Europe and Israel" and "bad guys in autocracies like China, Russia and Syria".

The soft glove fascism we live under hides a mountain of corruption, exploitation and false narrative.

For those warmed by such abundant "we are the good guys" prop, unless they are confronted directly with evidence like this - which simply will never happen without a root and branch media revolution - there's just no way they'll ever be moved from their support of 'Us'.
