To watch such a wide-ranging, brilliantly expressed critique of so many aspects of the capitalist world order governing our lives, and only hear "deep state, big pharma, ivermectin = another loony right-wing grifter, ignore" takes a special kind of talent, and/or a willingness to mindlessly propagandise against a perceived cultural enemy regardless of the merits of the arguments they're making. Pure tribalism in other words, and telling that Monbiot ignores the substance too, which wouldn't fit with his smear of Brand as dishonest, right wing conspiracy theorist.

None so blind...

In a period where the old values and labels are becoming increasingly redundent, because the old economic/social or is under incredible stresses and strains... people gravitate towards a kind of tribalism for comfort and support.

We're inside a form of 'cultural revolution' which cuts across many of the old language, attitudes, loyalties and symbols we used to think were important. In politics this is especially true of 'left' and 'right'.

Brand goes from being seen as extreme, unhinged, left, over to rightwing demagogue in few short months. The Labour Party makes the lurch from 'radical left' and emerges as yet another, but saner, Tory Party.

Liarbour has never been radical anything....nm

1947/8 seems like a year that something radical has happened. Just sayin'

The NHS was one of the first universal health care systems established anywhere in the world.[1] A leaflet was sent to every household in June 1948 which explained that. From wiki .. groan. BS.

I have a problem with the bolded section emphasising the fact that this statement is a delusion, imo. Why? USSR and socialist countries had this system going for a spell by that time, especially after 1945. Yawn. Just sayin'

And it was the Liberal Party that initiated the Welfare State.

The 1906 government proved its liberalism by basing employment insurance on the contributory principle which for poor people meant only a pittance since wages were so low. The real origin of the welfare state for poor people was the Battle of the Somme, when the British boss class realised that the workers were necessary to uphold the balance of European power. After the war social insurance was extended and whenever the money ran out a contrivance kept social insurance going. The Beveridge report was the usual liberal crap of taxing poor people to pay for their own benefits, which trapped the proposals in the usual paradox of derisory benefits, hence the continuation of state subsidisation to make working class benefits just about adequate. The amount of money going to poor people reached a peak in 1929 and didn't return to it until the early 1970s, when state propaganda about workers pricing themselves out of jobs began to get louder and louder. Callaghan in 1976 and Thatchler 1979-1981 changed all that....

From the above, one can conclude that the creation of NHS in 1948 was in fact inconsequential, especially since all the actors in that drama were tarnished up to their earholes.

Actually my point was also that universal healthcare was already thriving elsewhere. Hence the yawn.
