Hello,
I'm presently staying with one of my siblings in the UK. My sibling is a good person, competent, practical and has been a valuable leader in the local and wider community for at least forty years. However the politics differ, for instance I didn't get any approval at all for attending a Palestinian protest in London. A no-go area in family relationships. The Telegraph is their newspaper. I haven't read it for years, and I won't be reading it again!
I was inclined to write to the paper. It won't be published, too long and not the sort of opinion they'd deign to promote. But here it is and my own more immediate family have approved
Dear Sir / Madam
I am a 76 year old retired GP who was proud to attend the Palestine protest in London two weekends ago, almost entirely peaceful and ordered. I repudiate and strongly resent the slur that I am unable to distinguish between hate and humane concern; Suella Braverman’s deconstruction of her own fellow citizens as haters is unforgivable. Our leadership’s unwavering political and physical support of this extreme Israeli violence is not just grossly immoral but geopolitically highly dangerous, bringing the serious risk of a disastrous wider conflict - they remain marooned on the wrong side of history. Some context: during nine months of the Blitz on London, the Luftwaffe killed some 20,000 civilians. In just one month Israel has killed, on a population basis, half as many people again. It is entirely appropriate to remember these innocents and try to prevent yet further murderous death and untold misery by peacefully demonstrating on Armistice Day, as we all also remember our own.
The embourgeoisment of a friend from school was complete when I realised that he was reading the Torygraph, having read the Graun for years. It's worth a go and looks pretty short, sharp and to the point, although I cavil at referring to them as "our" leaders. The last working-class hero in England.

The letters they have published are much shorter. One out of six supports the idea that our ancestors fought their wars to enable our freedom to protest even if we don't agree with the protest, another pointed out the cycle of violence and the "repeated lesson of history", So some fair points there.
Good letter John. I don't read Torygraph so I wouldn't know if they publish letters that criticises their pro-government views and editorials etc. Just in case it does get published, do let us know. Cheers.
Good point about the blitz - should get under the skin of TG readers if anything does (nm)
