Seems this might have some legs but I guess we'll see. Some discussion in the comments varying from "It's a trap" to "Election stunt" and most things in between.

in an interview with Lee Camp. He (CH) said that "they are talking" meaning Assange's people and the DOJ, and "they are stuck on one point" without further elaboration. He prefaced it with "I have to be careful what I say" so it's still very much behind the scenes.

If he is accused of something he genuinely hasn’t done. It means you are not going to contest the charge, leading to a default finding of guilt by the court, but not because the case has been proven.

There are many reasons for not contesting a charge, a key one being you know you won’t get a fair trial, so you will expend your money and your good name being lied about in court under oath, to no avail.

With the finding of guilt by default only, the court can still sentence as they would have done with a “guilty” plea, but if this is part of a bargain, the sentence would have been pre-agreed just the same.
