A sliver of good news to cheer you up amongst all the bleak and horrible crap flying at you is the plight of GB News and Talk TV. The latter Murdoch-owned channel is going online and abandoning normal transmission because of huge losses (Piers Morgan has already jumped ship and gone on Youtube) and it's recently been announced that GB News is drastically pruning staff after losses of £74m (I've seen quoted). Audiences as low as 30,000 at "peak" times just can't sustain its survival. They signed Boris Johnson several months ago as a star presenter but they're still waiting for him to put in an appearance (he's finishing his memoirs apparently) and rumours are that he's having second thoughts after such disastrous viewing figures.
Rhees-Mogg was being paid over £340,000 a year for his show on GB News but they're having to pare salaries to the bone, and again there's been nasty rumours that the station will have to go solely online like Talk TV.
Small crumbs of joy, perhaps, but crumbs nevertheless.
I've been exposed to some of this spiteful drivel on Twitter, usually when people are taking the piss out of it, but occasionally you spot one of the swivel-eyed that actually post it as, "Hey check this out, it's great" and I'm always left wondering how anyone can be so stupid as to listen to/watch this stuff and go, yep, that sounds right.
All the various psychological biases aside (confirmation bias must be largely resonsible for [almost] keeping them in business which is worrying in itself as it means non-negligible sections of the population actually think this way) they all just look like non-serious fucking grifters you'd think anyone with a bit of common sense would have some kind of reaction to them.
Hopefully they all disappear....no amount of cajolery, and no attempts at ethical or social seduction, can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred for the Tory Party...So far as I am concerned they are lower than vermin.
