There is no way the second dude is not an Israeli. Looks like they've decided to settle LA too....no amount of cajolery, and no attempts at ethical or social seduction, can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred for the Tory Party...So far as I am concerned they are lower than vermin.
Another is students vs. university administration, using the genocide as a backdrop. Its not necessarily a bad thing, but it is inward looking, it is internal politics in the university. About authority and power on campus.
Another is outside organizers coming in. Again, not necessarily a bad thing, but this is again, to use organizing skills to try to wrong-foot the university into making a mistake, creating an incident that will be publicized nationally and internationally. I reiterate: Not necessarily a bad thing to stress the administration into showing their colors, but to be accurate, this is one of the dynamics at play.
Finally there are outside agitators coming in, the UCLA scenario, these are people who simply cannot help themselves, and since (I believe, and their blue/white flags are obvious) they represent the same country that participated in the training of US police during the post-911 era, they have a level of impunity that they are able to exploit.
University of California is essentially not answerable to students, or to faculty. They are, however, answerable to the University of California board of regents. In case you had any illusions, here is a listing of current regents:
- Yes, that’s right. Now you know. Are you shocked? Its the scott trust plc or BBC all over again, but this is an educational legend with a reputation almost second to none.
- Shyaku
That's some good digging

but yikes I'm detecting several trends among that list.
It takes quite a lot to surprise me when it comes the the US, apartheid state, the powers that be but I have to say the completely merciless crushing of peaceful student protest in this case and the associated bare-facedly dishonest reporting of it has really been an eye-opener.
On a side note, I was walking past a TV earlier today, about middayish, and the BBC was covering the pigs taking down the UCLA encampment and the stuido presenter was asking the on the ground reporter, "Does there seem to be much of a conversation among the students about the horrors of October the seventh and what Hamas did and the nuances of this situation?" (paraphrased somewhat but not bloody much). Utterly incredible although in this case, not surprising.
