A friend visiting me for coffee this morning voiced an opinion on the media's stance on the Gaza genocide I haven't heard expressed in quite these terms before. He said the western media -- just as other concentrations of power and influence -- are under the control ultimately of the world-wide banking system, which follows the dictates and directions of a small number of family dynasties, most of whom are Jewish with Zionist adherents who set the agenda, and thus the media tacitly obeys without question what this cabal decrees to be written and broadcast.

When the masters crack the whip, the underlings obey.

Arguments for and against please.

You haven't heard the conspiracy of "the Jews run the banks and the media"? Pretty standard antisemitic trope, reluctant as I am to use that phrase given how often it has been weaponised in bad faith against leftists. My view is that family dynasties, made up or real, Jewish or gentile are largely irrelevant because money, capitalism and empire follow their own logic and aren't fussy about who gets used to advance the essential goal of plundering resources and centralising wealth and control to the maximum possible degree. Same with zionism: the ptb don't give a sh!t about the ideology, it's just a useful pretext for maintaining regional dominance in the oil rich middle east. Same with the media: they're just providing cover and deniability for the empire like they always do, but it's more a case of submitting to market forces than masters cracking whips over their underlings. This quote from Manufacturing Consent springs to mind:

......and a dangerous one. If these banking families, and some are Jewish, have this control, then it's our fault that we let them. The problem is not that they're Jewish, nor should that be raised as an issue, , but that they are Zionist. It's the conflation of the two that has allowed Israel to get away with its murderous policies against the Palastinians all this time .You stray onto an unpleasant anti-Semitism otherwise

I think that you'll find that economic power and political influence are proportional. I think that you'll find that the vast majority of rich bastards are amoral pragmatists, who don't give superstitious mumbo-jumbo the time of day, except as a means of ruling credulous people. I think that you'll find that the number of Jews involved is infinitesimal, even if you include pseuds and zionists.

Yes I have heard of it, of course. The point really was that my friend was using it in the direct context of the Israeli genocide in Gaza to explain why the corporate media en masse was willing to go easy on Israel and shy away from using the word "genocide". Had this same action been carried out by Russia or China on a captive civilian population you can easily predict what the western media coverage would have been -- utter evulsion and condemnation in headlines a foot high. So why, he was asking, was the reaction so diametrically different and what pressures and forces motivated it? And following on from that I would like to know if it's beyond the bounds of decent ethical behaviour to raise the verifiable truth that many (but not all) family dynasties with influence over corporate media are Jewish -- Zionist or otherwise. Or are these families regarded as Zionist by definition?

Let's put it another way. If there was no Jewish/Zionist influence at all, or very little, at high levels in the media, would the editorial line on Israeli genocide in Gaza have been the same? After all, and as we know, there's anti-Semitism amongst wealthy non-Jewish people, so why would such people put pressure on any media interests they owned or invested in to support Israel in this matter?

Zionists are ipso facto antisemites, ergo Jews aren't zionists. The US empire controls the oil of the Middle East via a network of client states, the principal one being zionist occupied Palestine. For American Caesar to get his money's worth, the zionist antisemites have to render unto Caesar and the quid pro quo, much more since the Iranian escape from the US in 1979, is a near free hand with the Palestinians. If the Palestinians are subject to genocide, US interests aren't harmed, if the Palestinians get their country back like the Zimbabweans and south Africans (sort of) US interests will be harmed. QED

In the dark days of the 1980s, Nigel M---, a history lecturer, described how censorship in Britain is pre- not post. You don't find pages cut out of newspapers or crude edits in films and TV, because realities not congenial to the boss class never get that far. He didn't use anything by Chomsky or Herman, MC was 1988, merely the events of the print and film-TV ages.

Being "loyal" to Israel is very profitable; lots of weapons and tech contracts to be handed out, lots of banking deals you can get commission on, lots of laundering to be done (Israelis pretty much run the worlds MDMA market and apparently some other fairly large chunks of various other drug markets). So they don't have to be zionist just greedy. There's also plenty of power, or access to it, to be distributed (having congressmen and senators in your pocket can come in handy for all kinds of things).

Having said that, on the face it seems like the classic anti-semitic trope but then, as you say, you find out that actually a lot of the heads of these companies ARE zionists and you have to ask if asking the question is actually not unreasonable.

OK, so you accept that US political system is corrupt via two entities; AIPAC and MIC .. and where most of the payolas manifest.

It seems that the Enabling Act of 1933 type of switcheroo is just to bypass the constitution or whatever guides them. Interesting one about efficient and dignified parts .. still, that was way back:
