Managed to be first caller, GG did not allow me to finish what I wanted to say, i.e., China has a massive ongoing de-carbonisation program, of which nuclear is a big component, together with renewables and coal, although in far less quantities - cost is estimated at over US$8 Trillion, the nuclear part is US$450 Billion to be finalised no later than 2050, they will utilise 3rd Gen and 4th Gen reactors, together with Thorium, first test Thorium reactor goes live by 2025 - here, Keith's hypothetically setting up a SPIV (Special Investment Vehicle) allegedly to promote clean energy, oh and you'll save 300 quid a year - utter bollocks and a massive con.

Thorium reactor goes live by 2025

Now this is something that I find exciting since this produces very little radioactive waste that has to be taken care of in terms of millions of years etc. We discussed this on TLN board a month or so ago, and some people were pooh-pooing it (eyes roll) .. simply because they were not informed. I still can't believe it they cracked it.

China's energy transition program is massive, its ahead on 4th Gen, so if the one they've now built and have turned on, this will be the prototype of the actual 4th Gen rollout. Now Thorium molten salt reactors cannot be used for WMDs, further, they can actually also be fueled with nuclear waste, i.e., they actually dispose of waste from older reactors - I've read the full Party documentation on the nuclear rollout and big excitement about the energy mix they are working on - again, unlike the USA, China is spending money on securing its energy until the end of the century - they do after all plan in generational terms. When compared with EU/UK plans, well, the UK don't have a plan an the EU's plans are impossible, China's are not.

I thought that nuclear waste can only be used by fast-breeder reactors like Russians have developed. I guess I need to read up a bit on that thorium angle. Ta.
